King SalmonKing salmon fishing is outstanding on the west coast of Prince of Wales due to its location directly in the migration route.  As kings migrate down the coast of SE Alaska, they stop and feed at the many capes, rock piles, and kelp lines that trap forage fish in the current.  A sport caught king usually averages 18 lbs, but often we catch Kings over 30 lbs and on occasion over 50lbs.  Kings are strong fighters.  We catch kings by mooching or trolling.  The limit is usually one king salmon per day, per angler.

Coho Salmon: Coho fishing is also great out of the Klawock area due to the fact that the largest coho hatchery return in Alaska happens here.  Every year these fish return and feed in the saltwater areas around Noyes, Baker, and St. John Islands.   The sport caught coho averages 7-10 lbs and have a generous limit of six per day, per angler.  They are usually caught using the mooching method.

HalibutHalibut are in good abundance around the Noyes Island area.  We typically travel 5-7 miles offshore and target large schools of halibut in 300 feet of water.  The action is usually fast and furious and you will have sore arms after reeling up several halibut.  The halibut usually range from 30-40", with the occasional larger ones caught.  Although the limit for halibut is usually one halibut per day, under 40", it's still fun to catch and release the big ones.  Big halibut can be retained under the GAF program.  Alaska Outside Charters is an owner of a Charter Halibut Permit. They have the proper permits to take you halibut fishing on a charter.

LingcodLingcod are prehistoric looking fish, that inhabit the rock piles on the west coast of Prince of Wales.  They are a aggressive fish, often viciously attacking jigs and spoons that are worked on the rocks.  They are so aggressive they will latch on to rockfish as you reel them up.   The limit for lingcod are 1 annually, with a slot limit of 30-45 inches.

RockfishBlack rockfish are abundant on the rocks around the outer coast islands.  They bite just about anything presented to them. The limit for black rockfish is 5 per day, per angler.

Boat

Captain John uses a 25' Almar Sounder for his fishing charters.  This is one of the most proven boat designs on the open water on the west coast of Prince of Wales.  It is well equipped with newer twin 150 outboards, a 9.9 Kicker engine, and modern electronics.  It boasts four air ride suspension seats to soften the ride and a big back deck for fishing. This boat has the size and range to reach the fish and some of the more remote bottom fishing areas. The boat is also equipped with all USCG Required safety gear.
